TPA Spring Professional Development seminars a resounding success

As spring turns to summer, and students begin to dream of a time away from school, the TPA has been hard at work all spring bringing numerous professional development opportunities to over 150 tennis coaches across the country. From Nova Scotia to British Columbia and nearly everywhere in between has been touched by a TPA seminar already this spring, with the two major themes being U10 development, and why team play is becoming an important tool for coaches to use.

These PD events kicked off in Alberta in late April, as Severine Tamborero, André Parent and Jocelyn Robichaud presented to coaches in Alberta and British Columbia on building the ground for future success though the Under 10 development pathway. Focussing on tactical and technical competencies for under-10 players, as well as moving players through the progressive tennis spectrum, Severine was able to drive home the idea that we have to pay special attention to our youngest athletes. Complimenting this message was André Parent and his discussion on the importance of coordination development with under-10 players, and how to best go about training these aspects with younger athletes.

The PD events continued on opposite ends of the country in May, as Alan Ma and Francois Giguere presented at the Cougar Dome in Truro Nova Scotia; while in British Columbia Andy Sutton and Michael Loomer led the same presentation in Victoria. The topic of choice was developing team play programs, and discussing why these team play programs are imperative to the growth of tennis in Canada. After stops in Kelowna and North Vancouver Andy delivered 1 final presentation to coaches in Ottawa.

If you missed any of these events don't worry as the TPA still has plenty of events coming up, including the TPA/PTR days at Rogers Cup on July 25, and at Coupe Rogers on July 26.
