Judy Murray to Headline 2015 TPA Conference

Toronto, November 10, 2014 – Tennis Canada announced Monday that highly-respected coach and British Fed Cup captain Judy Murray will be the headlining guest speaker at the 2015 Tennis Professionals Association (TPA) Conference, to be held at the Centre of Excellence at Rexall Centre in Toronto on February 26.

“We are extremely excited to be bringing Judy Murray to the TPA Conference next year,” said Ari Novick, senior director, tennis development, Tennis Canada. “Murray is such an accomplished individual in the coaching world, and will be bringing a vast array of knowledge and experience to the event.  We are all looking forward to hearing her speak and know she will help make the conference become another great success.”

A former tennis player herself, Murray was the first coach of her two sons, Jamie and Andy. Andy has since won two Slam trophies and reached a career-high ranking of world No. 2, while Jamie is a top doubles player. She has been a national coach with the Lawn Tennis Association, worked with several tennis players throughout their careers, and is heavily involved with grassroots development. Captain of the British Fed Cup team since December 2011, she has said it’s a role she took partly to help grow the number of female coaches in Great Britain. She also is the founder of Set4Sport, a program created to help parents find easy and accessible ways to play with their children at an early age and develop the skills required for sports.

Dedicated to growing the profession of tennis coaching in Canada, the TPA was introduced by Tennis Canada in 2004 to assist the nation’s certified instructors, coaches, and club professionals, and its membership has grown each year to over 2,900 people. The TPA celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, and membership renewals for 2015 opened this month. Past guest speakers at the TPA Conference have included Paul Annacone and Brad Gilbert.
