TPA Announces new award for the 2017 Coaching Excellence Awards

Rene Simpson-Collins Excellence Awards

In February 2016, Tennis Canada announced the creation of the Rene Simpson-Collins Junior and Coaching Excellence Awards to honour the memory and legacy of one of Canada’s greatest ambassadors.  Rene Simpson-Collins passed away on October 17, 2013 following a year-long battle with brain cancer but her courage, perseverance and contributions to tennis in Canada will forever live on through this award.

Rene was a determined and courageous Canadian who took great pride in representing her country as a player and as a coach. She helped provide young players with the opportunity to reach their full potential to take their place at the top of the world stage. As an outstanding role model for her family members, friends and for the current generation of Canadian players to whom she imparted her values, the TPA will recognize Rene’s contribution to Canadian Tennis. This will ensure that she is remembered as a symbol of courage, pride and passion.

A $2000 scholarship will be presented annually to a female coach displaying potential to reach the highest levels of coaching and teaching excellence in Canada. The award will provide a scholarpship to offset costs of professional development courses, seminars, including international, national, and provincial conferences or seminars and/or certification courses approved by the TPA.

If you believe you know a coach who is deserving of this scholarship be sure to tell them to  apply. This award will be presented at the 2017 TPA National Coaching Conference.
